Ithaca DSA Presents: Immigrant Workers Organize

Ithaca Democratic Socialists of America Presents #316:

"Immigrant Workers Organize" Zahida Pirani of the New York Civic
Participation Project, working with labor and the immigrant
community, and David Jimenez of the Restaurant Opportunity Center of
New York, working with restaurant workers, who are often immigrants,
discuss immigrant issues as labor issues. Both have been impressed by
the activism of immigrants, as evidenced by recent massive May Day
events.

"Vietnam and Iraq" Noam Chomsky compares the Vietnam War and the Iraq
War. The discussions around both are very similar, but if you can see
through the assumptions of the establishment, the real situations are
very different.

"Barbara Ehrenreich Addresses YDS" Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickel and Dimed and Bait and Switch, spoke at the Young Democratic Socialists Winter Conference in February 2007. She addressed bad employment conditions for young and old, uneducated and educated alike. Joseph Schwartz agreed with her that changes in the job market do not really help.

Ithaca DSA Presents: US Social Forum

Ithaca Democratic Socialists of America Presents #313:

Serrou all attended the US Social Forum at the end of June in
Atlanta. They tell Petra Hepburn about encountering people from
diverse social movements, making new allies, finding connections
between seemingly different projects around labor rights,
sustainability, human rights, economic justice and much much more.
